The aviation industry is composed of many jobs such as pilot, flight attendant or air traffic controllers, but there are other jobs which are pretty unknown, and very important for the functioning of the airport or an airline. One of our co-founders, Valentin Sierro had the opportunity to interview a former flight dispatcher, Vincent Grondin. He has worked for more than 20 years for a private company at the Geneva airport and he shared his experience with us as well as his thoughts on Urban Air Mobility.

Urban Air Mobility at the first Swiss drone industry-academia gathering

In mid-February we had the chance to participate at the First Swiss drone industry-academia gathering in Bern, organised by the Drone Industry Association Switzerland (DIAS) and hosted by the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA). The who-is-who of the entire Swiss drone industry and universities were on site. A very compact, highly interesting event! Start-ups and other stakeholders in the field of Urban Air Mobility and eVTOL aircrafts were present too.

Press release: New association to support sustainable Urban Air Mobility in Switzerland

Three Master students from HES-SO founded Urban Air Mobility Association Switzerland (UAMAS) to bring together the various actors involved in a new form of sustainable and efficient public transport: air taxi services with electric aircrafts. With this project they want to pro-mote this new form of public transportation of the third dimension. Such Air taxis will be soon able to carry between two to five people over short and medium distances.

Why Switzerland is a perfect hub for eVTOL

We at UAMAS truly believe that Switzerland is a perfect place to develop the new electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicles technology. According to us, many indicators shows that eVTOL can be developed safely and in a perfect environment. Although Switzerland is small by its size, it is leading in many fields such as pharmaceuticals, electronics, new technologies and more.

Switzerland takes over new European drone regulations

Good news for Switzerland: The Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) moves forward regarding the air traffic management (ATM). The European commission has recently launched the U-Space project which Switzerland has participated in and has decided to put it in place in 2020. The European Commission estimates, that drones will represent 10 % of the aviation market in ten years. Hence the increase of drones has pushed authorities to review their laws and think about what could be done in order to offer security, safety and confidence to this industry and the population.
